INSTALLATION IN PICTURES
The TaterGrip Installation package
includes your TaterGrip, two blank labels
and a rubberband to hold the grip in
your desired location either over the
knob or above the knob.
Carefully remove your TaterGrip
from the sealed pouch. It will be
moist from solvent. It would be wise
to have a towel to clean up
excessive solvent.
Place one end of the grip over bat
knob. Slide Tater Grip over knob,
you will have to use a little force to
slide grip down and over knob. Start
at an angle not straight over the top.
Some knobs are bigger than 2” so
you may want to use a little liquid
soap on the knob to help with
lubrication.
Slide the grip so that the bottom end is flush with the knob for proper placement. Or leave it over the knob for a different look. (Note: Leaving the grip over the knob can result in tearing of the grip over time.)
Once the grip is in the proper position set the bat on the knob barrel end up and lean against a wall. Allow 6-12 hours for grip to shrink properly. It’s a good idea to look at the bat grip a few times during the first hour to make sure the user likes the positioning of the grip as it shrinks it moves a little.
We have included a plastic clamp to wrap around the grip closest to the knob as the grip shrinks it shrinks from both ends so you don’t want it curing away from the knob. By tightening the clamp around the knob it will then only shrink from one end. Make sure clamp is tight.

If you choose to leave the grip over the knob to shrink, be sure to cut it off just under the knob before you put it in play as it may tear on the knob portion.

- Open Box and Remove Grip Labels and Sealed Grip Sleeve (do not open grip sleeve) IMPORTANT NOTE: (If you bought a solid color Tater Grip please proceed to step #10. The solid color Tater Grips do not include a label.)
- Remove old grip from bat and clean and remove any tape residue (For customers who purchased a solid color Tater Grip with no label please go to step 10)
- Go To www.tatergrip.com
- Choose: “Tater Design Center” button
- Choose a stock design and or create your own custom look
- Save File
- Print design on plain white paper to make sure it looks and reads how you want
- After confirming the look of the label, place the Tater labels provided in the box in your ink jet or laser printer. We provide two labels in case one doesn’t print out how you like it. To insure proper printing we suggest placing a large book on the labels for a few minutes to flatten the labels in case they are too curved to properly feed into your printer.
- Apply label to handle of bat. Make sure when applying label to keep label straight and start from knob end first and gently lay the label on the bat handle. Wrap label around handle, the label is designed to wrap 1/8” of an overlap. Most handles are ¾” in diameter. If your bat is larger than ¾” of an inch then there might be a slight space where the label does not perfectly cover the bat handle. In that situation you can do one of two things. (1) Leave the space, it will hardly be noticed when the bat grip is installed or (2) cut a thin piece of label from the other label provided to fill the gap. The label is a paper label and small creases may appear so take your time with installing the label as once it is on you cannot remove and re-apply. Again we provide two labels in case a mistake is made.
- Remove Tater Grip from sealed pouch. The Tater Grip will be slightly moist from the solvent. It’s a good idea to have a towel near by to wipe any excess solvent off after installation.
- Place one end of the grip over bat knob. Push & Slide Tater Grip over knob, you will have to use a little force to slide grip down and over knob. Start at an angle not straight over the top. Some knobs are bigger than 2” so you may want to use a little liquid soap on the knob to help with lubrication. Do not pull Tater Grip over knob as it may tear, one must push the opening from a side angle and then feed the grip down the bat until the entire grip is over the knob. Again do not pull on the grip at anytime as it will tear.
-
Clear Grip: Slide grip completely over the knob and the one end should be flush up against the knob, use the fastening clamp enclosed and clamp the grip right below the knob, part of the grip should be pushed up onto the knob as seen in picture
Solid Color Grips: you can choose to do it exactly like the clear grip mentioned above or you can leave over the knob and let it shrink. Once the grip has full shrunk we recommend cutting the grip just under the knob (see picture) as the grip will tear if you put into play with it over the knob. You could also wrap athletic tape around the knob to protect the grip and knob.
- Once the grip is in the proper position set the bat on the knob barrel end up and lean against a wall. Allow 6-12 hours for grip to shrink properly. It’s a good idea to look at the bat grip a few times during the first hour to make sure the user likes the positioning of the grip as it shrinks it moves a little.
- We have included a plastic clamp to wrap around the grip closest to the knob as the grip shrinks it shrinks from both ends so you don’t want it curing away from the knob. By tightening the plastic clamp around the knob it will then only shrink from one end. Make sure plastic clamp is tight.

Above you will find an example of where to cut the TaterGrip Pro Model that is specifically designed for wood bats.
